نیترات سریم آمونیوم یک کمپلکس نارنجی-قرمز بسیار محلول در آب با اکسیداسیون قوی است. این ماده عمدتاً به عنوان کاتالیزور و اکسیدان برای سنتز آلی، آغازگر واکنش پلیمریزاسیون و عامل خورنده برای مدارهای مجتمع استفاده می‌شود. نیترات سریم آمونیوم به عنوان یک اکسیدان و آغازگر، مزایای واکنش‌پذیری بالا، گزینش‌پذیری خوب، دوز کمتر، سمیت کم و آلودگی کم را دارد.
